New Generation of NGC Yaw Drives with Overload Protection
Yaw drive gearboxes tend to face mechanical failure because of overload (for example, under extreme wind conditions). Wind turbine shutdowns and potential power production losses are the consequence.
As a solution to this issue, the new overload protection technology designed and developed by NGC automatically disconnects the yaw drives from the load after an overload occurs. This prevents the transmission of the overload to all parts and components including the electric motor, the gearbox, and the slewing bearing, thus protecting the entire yaw system from possible damage. As result, the product’s operating and maintenance costs are reduced, and the system reliability improves by extending the maintenance cycle and lowering the maintenance costs. The “new generation of yaw drives with overload protection” have passed the strictest tests and certification requirements demanded by renewable energy companies and certification bodies in Europe.
